The Infant/Toddler House and the Children's House at Coconut Grove Montessori School are fully equipped Montessori environments. The curriculum is individualized and designed to help the child grow at their own pace, gain self-confidence, independence, develop physically and socially, as well as promote academic achievement. The Montessori Environments include areas of Practical Life (care of the self and the environment), Sensorial, Language Arts, and Mathematics. There are also areas of specialization consisting of Geography, Botany, Zoology, the Arts, Creative Movement, and Music.
Montessori classroom are unique in that they allow children
to explore each subject area at their own pace, and provide
them with the opportunity to practice and perfect a specific
skill as long as needed in order to achieve maximum success.
The classroom environment is a "prepared environment",
in which materials and lessons are well organized and follow
a sequence guided by the child's natural development.
Areas for learning are well defined, yet the room is open
for all of the children to observe others at work. The Montessori
environment teaches the child respect; respect for oneself,
others, and the world around them. |
